The traditional DVD of “Up in Smoke” was what you’d query — the movie duly presented plus a commentary with Cheech Marin and Adler, plus a handful of deleted scenes.

This time, Paramount fills the DVD bong with a terrific novel inspiring music video for the movie’s “Alice Bowie” song; a novel featurette with producer Lou Adler and Cheech & Chong (separately) talking about the movie; a high-speed montage of every instance someone says “man” in the movie; and some newly captivating 1970s radio promos — all of presented in the high spirits of the film.

The weak commentary (ported over) and recent featurette whisper some grand tales about the movie and the people who worked on it, such as Stacey Keach, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Edie Adams and one-man test audience Jack Nicholson.

The widescreen DVD images discover gargantuan, especially upconverted, with lots of sparkling, saturated critical colors that arrive across as reasonably natural. The music benefits from some tasty stereo separation and the dialogue is positive — even when the boys are gracious and zonked.

Out of all the Cheech & Chong collaborations, their first film, 1978′s Up In Smoke unruffled stands as the best. A comedy classic that unbiased can’t be duplicated, not even by themselves. The position (can you guess? ) concerns two dudes, Pedro (Cheech) & Man (Chong) and their search for the best weed, rock music, and expedient times, man. Of course this scamper comes with a heed, evading a group of “undercover” cops led by the obsessed Sgt. Stedenko (Stacy Keach) . If you like cars, you’ll no doubt savor Pedro’s Care For Machine, which he decorated himself, and the van made completely out of pot! View out for that smoke. A few of the funniest scenes reach from this van: 1. When the cop pulls them over and forgets why! and 2. When Stedenko and crew stand next to the smoking van and feel the influence, then order some pizzas! If you like to rock, then you’ve got that too. To quote the concert announcer – “…I don’t know who they are, but here’s ALICE BOWIE.” Being a drummer myself, I’m more than a exiguous jealous of Chong’s enormous drumsticks! However, I’m not jealous of Cheech’s tu-tu! The characters Cheech & Chong created began to wear out in later films, but don’t count this one out. Up In Smoke is when it was recent and original and somehow it quiet “smokes” to this day.

Some comments on the DVD: One reviewer stated that the DVD doesn’t have any features, but that’s impartial not accurate. I objective bought the 2000 Paramount DVD release and it has the following:

The career arc of Jackie Paris–widely considered one of the greatest jazz singers of all time–is studded with a tragic succession of “what ifs.” What if he hadn’t turned down an invitation to join Duke Ellington after being the first white vocalist to tour with Lionel Hampton? What if his live performances with Charlie Parker had been recorded and released? And, not least, what if temperament, awful luck and ineffectual representation hadn’t conspired to prevent him from grabbing the brass ring and becoming, say, another Tony Bennett? These are some of the keen questions that filmmaker Raymond De Felitta pursues in this provocative, emotionally compelling documentary. De Felitta became obsessed with Paris after hearing him on a Los Angeles radio space. By that time, Paris had dropped so far off the collective cultural radar that a jazz encyclopedia listed him as having died in 1977. Paris’ best decade was the 1950s, during which he was the first singer to portray the song “Round Midnight,” was named Best Novel Male Vocalist for 1953 by Downbeat magazine, recorded two albums under his bear name, and earned accolades from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Charles Mingus. Yet somehow, mainstream stardom eluded him. Paris also fell victim to changing musical tastes, as the jazz-inflected 1950s made procedure for the rock-dominated 1960s. Having found Paris living in Unique York City, De Felitta recorded a number of on-camera interviews with the charismatic singer, and fleshed out his film with archival footage, serene photos, audio clips, and interviews with singer Anne Marie Moss (one of Paris’ ex-wives), plus musicians Billy Taylor, James Sullen, Billy Vera and several others. De Felitta’s film not only attempts to reply the ask of why Paris never hit it mammoth, but, perhaps more famous, explores the very nature of creativity and all the obsessions, respectable intentions, and personal demons that fuel it. “Tis Autumn: The Search for Jackie Paris,” is primary viewing for anyone fervent in jazz, and in what separates winners and also-rans, not only in music, but in any lunge of life.

There is no doubt, upon hearing his jabber, that Paris was one of the best jazz singers in history. The expect then becomes: Why doesn’t anyone know his name?

“Tis Autumn” delves headfirst into this inquire, providing viewers with a gawk into a life which is in turns impossibly exquisite and disturbingly mundane. This is the yarn of a spacious man whose flaws and awful choices did as mighty to execute his career as his humanity and integrity did to kill it. The same man who was unwilling to “sell out” for greater fame is also unwilling even at his deathbed to reply his oldest son’s existence.

I’m left with a feeling that maybe it would have been better for Paris to have died in the 1970s as various sources claimed was the case. Not better for Jackie himself, obviously, but for his legacy, such as it is. Then again, if he hadn’t tried a comeback in the last weeks of his life, this film would never have been made, and we would not have been granted a gaze into this unlikely life.

Technically, the documentary is very well done. Top-notch pacing and storytelling. The film maker is not shocked to ask tough questions and ogle out less-than-willing family members to interview. He does not gloss over the negatives, which would have been easy to do: The soundtrack to this film is reliable. Paris’ say was objective as proper at 78 as it had been at 28, if not better. The scenes from the “comeback” concerts are enthralling.

Several days after watching “Tis Autumn,” I obtain myself humming along to one tune or another from the film. That’s impartial as well, because it would be a shame to forget Jackie Paris now that I’ve discovered him.

My 11 year dilapidated daughter and 3 of her friends thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It’s objective about fair for their age group — boy crushes, magical mermaids, wishes, giggles and mean girls.

It’s an updated teen version of Shrimp Mermaid — Aquamarine is looking for Correct Care For to exhibit to her dad that it exists so that she doesn’t have to marry some seadude that she’s not in like with.

At the destroy of the legend — the good cherish that she finds is the appreciate that the two girlfriends reveal to her.

My girls all gave it a thumbs up and you’ll regain yourself humming the song as you leave this light hearted romp.

Aquamarine is a feel-good movie aimed at young teenage girls, but from a different demographic I quiet found it comical, respectable, and fresh enough to withhold my interest. There’s lots of young people, the beach, fireworks, the hit song “Island In The Sun,” and a mermaid. If you’re sick of winter in the midwest, it’s a satisfactory flee.

It’s about two girlfriends, one of which is about to recede away, who seek a mermaid washed into a swimming pool by the previous nights severe winds. The mermaid will grant them a wish if they encourage her obtain like – within a few days. Her father is forcing her to marry someone she doesn’t esteem, because the Mermen (? ) don’t have in savor. She has unbiased a few days to demonstrate it exists, and she picks out the local life guard whom the two young protagonists also worship.

There’s a bit of romance, a bit of humor, even a bit of suspense as the boy’s previous girlfriend jealously interferes, and a few poignant moments as well. The romance is appropriate for kids; it’s not one of the funniest movies out, but humorous enough for the whole family.
